Frontline Developments in Ukraine
As of November 15, 2025, the Ukrainian General Staff reported a total of 164 combat engagements across the front line. A significant development on this day was the withdrawal of Ukrainian forces from the village of Novovasylivske in Zaporizhzhia Oblast. This strategic repositioning was undertaken to occupy 'more favorable defensive positions' under increased Russian pressure.
Withdrawal from Novovasylivske
The Southern Defense Forces of Ukraine confirmed the withdrawal from Novovasylivske, located east of Huliaipole in the Polohiv district. The decision was made due to 'adjustments to the contact line, forces regroupment, and to protect the lives of service personnel,' as well as 'to preserve the lives of servicemen.' This move is part of a broader pattern of withdrawals in the region, with Ukrainian forces having previously pulled back from positions near Rivnopillia on November 11, and five other settlements the day prior. According to Ukrainian mapping and analytical group Deep State, Novovasylivske has been largely under Russian occupation since early November, though a blurred front line and frequent Ukrainian counterattacks had made full territorial control difficult to ascertain.
Intensified Russian Pressure in Zaporizhzhia
The withdrawal from Novovasylivske underscores the sustained and intense Russian pressure in the Zaporizhzhia and southern Dnipropetrovsk oblasts. Russian forces are reportedly not reducing the intensity of their assault operations, massive artillery shelling, and fire strikes in these areas. Over the past day, more than 350 strikes utilizing over 1,500 rounds of ammunition were recorded in this sector. Russian advances in Zaporizhzhia Oblast have been gaining pace throughout October and November, with concerns that these movements could threaten to outflank the city of Huliaipole.
Combat Activity Across the Front
Beyond Zaporizhzhia, combat engagements were reported across various sectors. The Pokrovsk direction experienced the highest number of clashes, with 52 attacks recorded. In the Oleksandrivske and Huliaipole directions, nearly 40 combat engagements occurred over the past day. Russian forces conducted 39 airstrikes, dropped 89 guided bombs, deployed 2,659 kamikaze drones, and carried out 3,355 attacks on Ukrainian military positions and populated areas on November 15. Ukrainian forces are actively working to hold back Russian advances and inflict coordinated fire damage on enemy troops. Reported Russian losses in the Zaporizhzhia and southern Dnipropetrovsk oblasts amounted to nearly 300 personnel and 58 units of weapons and military equipment, including a tank, armored vehicles, various artillery systems, and light motor vehicles.

Saving lives is paramount. A tactical retreat to better positions is smart strategy.

This shows their commitment to protecting their soldiers. A wise choice under fire.

More territory lost. The West needs to step up, or this will continue.

It's a strategic adjustment, not a defeat. Ukraine will adapt and overcome.

While protecting soldiers' lives is always the priority, the consistent pattern of withdrawals suggests Russia is effectively applying pressure and gaining ground, which is concerning for Ukraine's overall strategic position.

Good move to consolidate forces. They'll hit back harder from stronger defenses.
