China Calls for Urgent Action in Gaza
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Friday, September 20, 2025, urged an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire in Gaza during talks with his Moroccan counterpart Nasser Bourita in Beijing. Minister Wang reiterated China's steadfast support for a two-state solution as the fundamental path to resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. He expressed deep concern and regret over the prolonged conflict, stating it has 'breached the bottomline of human conscience'.
Emphasis on 'Palestinians Governing Palestine'
During the meeting, Wang Yi underscored the principle of 'Palestinians governing Palestine', asserting that both Gaza and the West Bank are inalienable parts of Palestinian territory. He stressed that any arrangements for post-war governance and reconstruction must respect the will of the Palestinian people and safeguard their legitimate rights. China has consistently advocated for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, having recognized the State of Palestine since 1988.
Criticism of Actions Jeopardizing Peace
Minister Wang criticized actions that he stated violate international norms and jeopardize the two-state solution. He specifically mentioned Israel's persistence with plans to take over Gaza City, airstrikes on Hamas leaders, and accelerated encroachment on the territory of the West Bank. Wang Yi emphasized that 'peace cannot be achieved through force, while violence cannot bring security', adding that 'no country can build its own security at the expense of the insecurity of others'.
International Community's Role and Bilateral Ties
The Chinese Foreign Minister called on the international community to unite and push for a full ceasefire with a sense of urgency to alleviate the humanitarian disaster in Gaza. He urged countries with 'special influence' over Israel to shoulder their responsibilities and called for supporting Palestine's full membership in the United Nations. The meeting also saw the signing of a memorandum of understanding between China and Morocco to establish a strategic dialogue mechanism, with Minister Bourita reaffirming Morocco's adherence to the one-China principle.

It's valid to emphasize Palestinian self-governance, but the question of who truly represents all Palestinian people and can govern effectively remains internally complex.

While a ceasefire is desperately needed to end suffering, achieving it requires full commitment from both sides, which is a significant hurdle given the deep mistrust.

What about China's own human rights record? Hypocrisy!

China is absolutely right, peace through force is an illusion.

China's consistent support for a two-state solution is clear, yet its practical implementation faces immense challenges with current political realities and ongoing settlement expansion.
