Smoke rose in the air following an Israeli air strike on Sanaa, the capital controlled by the Huthi rebels in Yemen, on August 24, 2025. The Israeli military announced that the operation aimed at specific Huthi military sites, which included strategic positions such as those near the presidential palace, as well as power plants and a facility for storing fuel.
In a statement on social media platform X, Israeli official Israel Katz commented on the situation, linking the missile attacks from the Huthis to biblical plagues, stating, "The Huthis are firing missiles at Israel again. A plague of darkness, a plague of the firstborn -- we will complete all 10 plagues." This reference alludes to the ten calamities described in the Book of Exodus that were sent to persuade the Egyptian Pharaoh to release the enslaved Israelites.
Previously, the Israeli military reported that a missile launched from Yemen had landed just outside its borders; this incident followed the interception of two other missiles from the Huthis the day before. The Iran-supported Huthi group has pledged to intensify its missile strikes against Israel in retaliation for recent Israeli air strikes that resulted in the deaths of their prime minister and eleven additional high-ranking officials. Since the onset of the Gaza conflict in October 2023, the Huthis have been actively firing drones and missiles towards Israel, claiming their actions are in solidarity with the Palestinian cause. In response, Israel has conducted multiple retaliatory attacks on Huthi-held positions in Yemen, including strikes on ports and the capital Sanaa.

The Huthis' actions should be considered in the context of the long-standing occupation of Palestine by Israel.

The deaths of the Huthi officials is tragic, but I find it hard to sympathize. This seems to be the same old playbook.

The Huthis are a terror group that doesn't want peace. Israel is striking against their bad acts.

Katz's rhetoric is designed to dehumanize the Huthis and justify further aggression. Shameful.

The Huthis are destabilizing the region. Israel had every right to strike military targets in Yemen.
