Tragedy unfolded off the coast of Bali, Indonesia, as a speedboat capsized, leading to the deaths of two Chinese nationals. The accident occurred around 3:00 p.m. local time when the boat, which was traveling from Penida Port to Sanur Port, was hit by sizable waves just before reaching its destination.
There were 80 individuals aboard the speedboat at the time, made up of 73 foreign tourists, two local passengers, and five crew members. The incident has resulted in two fatalities, one person who is currently unaccounted for, and 77 individuals who survived the accident.
In the immediate aftermath, rescue teams sprang into action, deploying inflatable boats for search and rescue operations. They are still working to locate the missing individual. Meanwhile, officials from the Chinese consulate have visited hospitals to support those injured in the incident and are coordinating arrangements for the deceased victims.
Additionally, the consulate has encouraged Chinese citizens residing or traveling in Indonesia to keep updated on local maritime conditions and to exercise caution while engaging in sea travel.
