Celebratory activities are planned across Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao throughout August to commemorate the 100-day countdown to the 15th National Games. Announcements regarding the Games' progress were made at a recent press conference. Key updates include the completion of competition venue renovations and the release of the official schedule. Test events are well underway, with more than half of the planned 68 events already completed.
The preparation for the Games has adhered to principles of environmental sustainability, inclusivity, openness, and integrity, while also prioritizing efficiency, safety, and a spectacular presentation. A significant aspect of this approach is the utilization of existing infrastructure, with over 90% of competition venues upgraded rather than newly constructed, thereby reducing costs.
The National Games will take place from November 9th to 21st within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, showcasing 34 competitive sports and 23 mass sports activities. The torch relay will traverse Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao. The opening and closing ceremonies are designed to blend local traditions, highlighting the unique characteristics of Hong Kong and Macao, alongside sports culture, creating a visually rich spectacle that celebrates Chinese culture and the technological advancements of the Greater Bay Area.
This edition marks a historic first, as Hong Kong and Macao jointly host the nation's premier sporting event. Guangdong will launch a series of themed celebration events on August 1st to mark the 100-day countdown. Events are planned to cater to the preferences of residents in Hong Kong and Macao, with specific sports allocated to each region. Following the Games, all venues will be opened to the public.
Hong Kong will host eight events, including U-22 men's basketball, track cycling, fencing, and bowling. Test events for these competitions have been successfully completed. A major countdown event will be held in Hong Kong on August 2nd, followed by a citywide "National Games Fitness Day" on August 3rd, with themed activities across all districts.
Macao is also making steady progress in its preparations, having successfully completed operational tests for several events. A special countdown event is scheduled for August 1st. The National Games, now in its 15th edition, serves as a platform to showcase the development of Chinese sports and promote patriotic education.

I hope the focus on 'Chinese culture' doesn't overshadow local traditions and cultures specific to Hong Kong and Macao.

More patriotic education? I'm weary of the constant push for nationalistic sentiment in every aspect of life.

I wonder if the 'inclusivity' extends to allowing all viewpoints and criticisms, or are dissent and opposing views censored?
