Chelsea defender Levi Colwill has sustained an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury during a training session, the club announced late Thursday. The injury is expected to sideline the 22-year-old for a significant portion of the upcoming season.
Following the injury, the England international underwent successful surgery. Recovery from an ACL injury usually requires a period of six to nine months before a player can return to competitive play.
Colwill had recently returned to the team's training facility for pre-season preparations when the injury occurred. Medical evaluations confirmed that surgery was necessary. The club's medical team will provide support to Colwill throughout his rehabilitation process at the training ground.
Last season, Colwill played in 43 matches across all competitions for Chelsea. He also contributed to the team's victory in the Club World Cup held in July. Chelsea, who secured a fourth-place finish in the previous season, are scheduled to begin their 2025-26 Premier League campaign against Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge on August 17.

He’s a fighter. He'll bounce back stronger. Chelsea's got the best medical team to ensure that.

He's such a promising young talent. I'm so gutted for Levi I was looking forward to see him play. Sad times for our blues.

So frustrating. It's always promising young players who get these horrific injuries. We wish for him a speedy recovery.
