A pro-Palestine demonstration has commenced outside Wimbledon as the tennis tournament begins. Visuals from the scene depict a damaged car surrounded by individuals displaying Palestinian flags. The vehicle is covered in what appear to be bullet hole markings, each meticulously numbered in red paint. Memorial photographs, many featuring children, have been placed against the car.
The Palestine Solidarity Campaign UK had promoted a protest event on social media, scheduled to begin at 10 am on Church Road, across from Centre Court. The campaign group's message called for Barclays, a tournament sponsor, to cease funding what they describe as Israel's actions against Palestinians. The PSC describes itself as a group advocating for peace, equality, and justice, while opposing racism, occupation, and colonization.
This protest coincides with reports of widespread malnutrition among children. A spokesperson from Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital, speaking to Al Jazeera, stated that at least 60,000 children are suffering due to a lack of food. They also alleged that hospitals in the Gaza Strip are systematically targeted and that there is a complete absence of milk for children. A World Health Organisation report from May 22nd documented 28 attacks on healthcare facilities in Gaza during the preceding week, and a total of 697 attacks since October 2023.
A Barclays spokesperson stated that they are proud of their partnership with Wimbledon and support the growth of the tournament and opportunities for young people. They also stated that they provide financial services to companies supplying defense products to the UK, NATO, and its allies. The protests are taking place on the first day of the Wimbledon championships, which will continue for two weeks.

Let the world know that while we enjoy tennis, people are suffering in silence. Solidarity with Palestine!
