In a recent release from the Ministry of National Development (MND), it was announced that all 17 town councils in Singapore have achieved a "green" rating, which is the highest possible score, for their performance in four essential areas. This recognition, confirmed in the estate management report concerning the financial year spanning from April 2024 to March 2025, celebrates the continued excellence of these councils, particularly in light of the General Election that occurred on May 3.
The ratings are categorized as green, amber, or red, with the assessment criteria including estate cleanliness, maintenance, lift functionality, and management of arrears related to service and conservancy charges (S&CC). However, MND also communicated that there would be no estate management report published for the financial year from April 2025 to March 2026. This decision is based on the establishment of new town councils on May 30, which will necessitate a transition period to ensure smooth operations following the change in administration. During this interim phase, MND will continue to monitor council performance and provide feedback for support. It was noted that reports will be resumed starting from the financial year 2026 (April 2026 to March 2027), a plan that echoes the strategy implemented following the previous general election in 2020.

Isn't this just a tactic to cover up potential issues in the councils? We deserve to know what's really happening!

Are we really supposed to trust these 'green' ratings if we won't get any transparency in the coming year?

How can MND celebrate the councils' performance when they are skipping the next year's report? Seems suspicious.

It's all talk and no action if we don't have consistent reporting. We need accountability, not just praise.

Why should we celebrate when the MND is taking steps back on transparency? It just doesn’t add up.
