On Sunday afternoon, a rough-toothed dolphin named Yang Yang was released back into the wild off the coast of Sanya, Hainan province. This event marked China's first successful rescue and release of a stranded rough-toothed dolphin this year.
The release ceremony, held approximately 70 nautical miles from Sanya, was attended by nearly 100 people. The attendees included those who initially discovered the dolphin, volunteers, and medical staff. The event coincided with World Oceans Day.
Yang Yang was found stranded on April 24th in Yalong Bay's Qingmei Harbor. The young female dolphin, measuring 2.12 meters in length, was weak and unable to swim, despite showing no visible injuries. She was immediately transported to the Sanya Haichang Ocean Park's marine life rescue center for rehabilitation.
