China is set to commemorate its 10th Space Day on April 24, hosting a range of events focused on its advancements in lunar exploration and fostering international collaboration. The China National Space Administration (CNSA) has announced that the primary celebrations will take place in Shanghai, with Thailand honored as the main guest nation for this year's festivities.
During a recent press conference, representatives from the CNSA, the Shanghai government, and the Shanghai Industrial Collaborative Innovation Office revealed details about the upcoming Space Day activities. They introduced promotional materials, including an eye-catching poster that combines traditional Eastern artistic elements with modern designs. This artwork, crafted by Fang Xijie from Anhui province, showcases the Chang'e-6 lunar lander in orbit around a full moon, symbolizing China's lunar exploration milestones, while also cleverly incorporating the number "10" using a Long March rocket ascending near the moon. The design features AI-enhanced dynamic graphics, highlighting the innovative spirit of the event.
The event schedule promises over 40 different activities, such as an opening ceremony, an international conference addressing climate change, the China Space Conference, and numerous public exhibitions. Noteworthy segments include the premiere of a space-themed film and the announcement of partnerships for lunar and deep-space exploration, alongside the presentation of the prestigious Qian Xuesen Outstanding Contribution Award.
From April 24 to May 5, the Shanghai World Expo Exhibition and Convention Center will host a space science exhibition that displays models and artifacts representing various achievements in space technology and applications, as well as the commercial space sector. For the first time, lunar samples obtained by the Chang'e 5 and Chang'e 6 missions will be exhibited together, providing a unique opportunity for visitors to appreciate these significant scientific achievements. Additional events such as the International Lunar Research Station Developers' Conference, the Second Lunar Sample Research Symposium, and forums focusing on satellite internet systems will take place in Shanghai's Pudong New Area.
Anticipation surrounds the participation of approximately 41 countries, regions, and international organizations, alongside Chinese officials, scholars, and experts. Across the country, more than 650 events are expected to be conducted in 30 provinces, including open days at space research facilities, lectures by space scientists in schools, and screenings of educational films related to space exploration.
