Zhu Fenglian, a spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, addressed recent comments made by the commander of the US Indo-Pacific Command. The commander had suggested creating a "hellscape" of autonomous systems in the Taiwan Straits to deter the Chinese People's Liberation Army. In response, Zhu stated that the continued promotion of this "hellscape" concept by some in the US demonstrates a malicious intent by anti-China forces to destabilize Taiwan for their own political objectives.
Zhu emphasized that the US should uphold the one-China principle and the agreements outlined in the three joint communiqués between China and the US. She called on the US to cease interference in the Taiwan question and to avoid actions that could be interpreted as support for "Taiwan independence" separatist forces.
Furthermore, Zhu commented on the US's decision to send a retired general to observe Taiwan's annual Han Kuang 41 exercises and serve as an advisor to the island's military chief of staff. She reiterated that the Taiwan question is an internal matter for China and that external interference is unacceptable.
Zhu firmly opposed any form of military exchange between the US and Taiwan. She urged the US to handle the Taiwan question with care and to stop encouraging "Taiwan independence" separatist forces to pursue independence through military means. The spokesperson also warned the DPP authorities that seeking independence with US support is a misguided path and that attempting to achieve independence through force is a dead end.

Zhu's accusations of 'malicious intent' are rich coming from a nation with a proven track record of authoritarian behavior.

China's refusal to acknowledge Taiwan's independent status is the root of the problem here.

The 'hellscape' idea is just another example of American hypocrisy and a desire for control.

The US has every right to support Taiwan. What a country does in defending itself is the countries business.

China's definition of 'internal matter' seems to include everything. Taiwan has the right to self-determination.

Instead of decrying the potential for a 'hellscape', China should focus on de-escalation.
