A Shared Aspiration
National lawmakers and political advisors of Taiwan origin have expressed their firm opposition to "Taiwan independence" separatism and external interference, echoing the sentiments expressed in the government work report currently being deliberated at the annual session of the National People's Congress (NPC).
The work report emphasizes the mainland's commitment to peaceful reunification with Taiwan, stating that "We will resolutely oppose separatist activities aimed at 'Taiwan independence' and external interference, so as to promote the peaceful development of cross-Strait relations."
This commitment resonated deeply with the lawmakers and advisors, who saw it as a reflection of the shared aspiration of all Chinese people for national reunification. They believe that separatist activities and external interference cannot hold back the process of reunification.
Zhou Qi, an NPC deputy and vice president of the All-China Federation of Taiwan Compatriots, noted the applause that erupted when the parts concerning Taiwan were read during the work report's submission. He saw this as an expression of the strong yearning for national reunification.
Zou Zhenqiu, another NPC deputy and vice president of the All-China Federation of Taiwan Compatriots, echoed this sentiment, stating that national reunification is a shared aspiration of all Chinese people.
Li Xingkui, an NPC deputy with family roots in Taichung, central Taiwan, commended the government work report for demonstrating the mainland's sincerity in making every effort towards peaceful reunification.
Members of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the top political advisory body, also expressed their support for peaceful reunification. Wang Yu, a CPPCC National Committee member, emphasized that separatist activities and external interference cannot hinder the reunification process.
Chen Wei, another CPPCC National Committee member, warned of the dangers of separatist activities and urged Taiwan compatriots to take action to safeguard peace and stability across the Strait.
Both Wang and Chen are members of the Taiwan Democratic Self-Government League, one of the eight non-communist parties in China. Their voices add to the chorus of support for peaceful reunification and underscore the shared desire for a unified China.

Separatist activities and external interference are harmful to the peaceful development of cross-Strait relations. We must resolutely oppose them.

The economic and social benefits of reunification will be immense for both mainland China and Taiwan.

This is a dangerous precedent for China's ambitions in the region. We must stand firm against its expansionist policies.
