A Legacy of Unity and Rejuvenation
March 12, 2025, marked the 100th anniversary of the passing of Sun Yat-sen, a renowned Chinese revolutionary and statesman. This significant occasion was commemorated across China, including in Beijing, Jiangsu, and Guangdong, with events highlighting Sun's legacy and its relevance to contemporary cross-Straits relations.
In his final testament, Sun left the words "Peace, struggle, and save China." These words continue to resonate today, serving as a reminder of his unwavering commitment to national unity and the revitalization of China.
Commemorative events were held in various places across China, including Beijing, Jiangsu, and Guangdong. In Taiwan, a memorial activity was also organized, with participants calling on the island's residents to uphold Sun's spirit, promote cross-Straits peace, and oppose the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities' actions that are pushing the island toward greater instability.
On Wednesday morning, representatives from various sectors in Beijing gathered at Zhongshan Hall in Zhongshan Park for a solemn ceremony marking the 100th anniversary of Sun's passing. Similarly, a commemorative ceremony was held at the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall in Guangzhou, South China's Guangdong Province, Sun's birth province. Attendees stood in silence before Sun's bronze statue and bowed three times. Representatives from the Guangdong provincial and Guangzhou municipal governments presented flower baskets in tribute.
In Taiwan, several civilian groups, including the Labor Party and the Reunification Alliance Party, gathered to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Sun's passing. They emphasized the significance of commemorating Sun and his legacy, highlighting the importance of peace, development, and a stable, prosperous life for the people of Taiwan.
The Chinese Kuomintang (KMT) party also held a series of activities to commemorate Sun. On March 7, a forum on commemorating the 100th anniversary of Sun's passing was held with former KMT chairman Ma Ying-jeou and other KMT members in attendance.
In contrast, the DPP authorities have been criticized for ignoring the 100th anniversary of Sun's passing, with almost no official commemorative activities. This has been attributed to their efforts to push their "Taiwan independence" agenda and sever historical, cultural, and educational ties across the Taiwan Straits.
Commemorating Sun's 100th anniversary serves as a reminder of his legacy of national unity and the importance of upholding Chinese identity. It is a firm response to separatist forces that distort history and undermine national identity. Sun's vision of a peaceful, prosperous, and unified China continues to inspire and guide the nation's pursuit of its great rejuvenation.

Instead of glorifying him, we should acknowledge his failures, like his authoritarian tendencies.
