China Exposes Taiwan's Cyber Warfare Unit
The Chinese Ministry of State Security has revealed the identities of four senior members of Taiwan's "Information, Communications and Electronic Force Command" (ICEFCOM), accusing the unit of carrying out cyber operations against the mainland.
ICEFCOM, established in 2017 and restructured in 2022, is tasked with conducting cyber warfare on behalf of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities. The ministry claims the unit engages in cyber espionage and sabotage activities against the mainland, hiring social hackers and cybersecurity companies as external forces.
The ministry published the pictures, dates of birth, and ID numbers of four key ICEFCOM members, warning them that "Taiwan independence" is a "path of no return." They urged the individuals to abandon their separatist activities and cease their criminal cyber operations.
The ministry detailed ICEFCOM's tactics, including infiltrating critical infrastructure like water, electricity, and communication networks. They also target key units of the Communist Party, the central government, the military, and enterprises through phishing emails and content maligning national reunification.
Additionally, the attackers have gained control of livestreaming platforms, electronic displays, and portal websites by stealing login credentials. They use these platforms to promote anti-reunification agendas and manipulate public opinion.
The ministry also accused ICEFCOM of operating "bot" accounts on social media to spread false information, monitor, and suppress dissenters on the island. Since 2023, they have used organizations like "Anonymous 64" to promote the DPP's separatist agenda.
However, the ministry claims that national security forces have successfully traced and seized dozens of ICEFCOM's cyberattack platforms, foiling their operations and attempts to steal secrets. They also reminded internet service providers and users to implement cybersecurity measures to prevent future attacks.
The Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council condemned Taiwan's cyber forces for their efforts to undermine mainland security. They accused the DPP of directing the cyber troops and reiterated that "Taiwan independence" is a dangerous path.

If Taiwan is truly conducting cyberattacks, then they should be held accountable. But China has a history of making false accusations.
