China Denounces Taiwan's Leader for Pro-Independence Stance

The Chinese mainland on Thursday strongly condemned Taiwan's leader, Lai Ching-te, for his pro-independence remarks. Lai, during a security meeting, described Taiwan as a sovereign country and outlined strategies to counter what he called threats from Beijing.

China's Taiwan Affairs Office spokesperson, Chen Binhua, criticized Lai's stance as "stubborn and provocative." He accused Lai of making false claims about Taiwan's independence and portraying the mainland as a hostile force.

Chen reiterated China's unwavering commitment to national reunification. He emphasized that Taiwan is an inseparable part of China's territory and will never be a separate country. He warned that any attempt by Taiwan to pursue independence would be met with resolute measures from the mainland.

This incident highlights the ongoing tensions between China and Taiwan over the issue of Taiwan's sovereignty. China considers Taiwan a breakaway province and vows to eventually reunite it with the mainland, by force if necessary. Taiwan, on the other hand, maintains its independence and seeks international recognition as a sovereign state.
