The short-track world championships are making their impressive return to the Chinese capital, with athletes and officials alike praising the event.
International Skating Union (ISU) president Kim Jae-youl said that Beijing never disappoints when it comes to hosting international skating events. He praised the city's world-class venues, excellent event organizers, and passionate skating fans.
This year marks the third time Beijing has hosted the short-track worlds, with the event being decorated by new logos and facilitated by a new video replay system. ISU director general Colin Smith said that the return to Beijing was a "no-brainer" due to the city's professional organization and high-quality ice and facilities.
Athletes have also praised Beijing as a generous and warm host. Canada's William Dandjinou said that the ice is perfect for his profile as a taller skater, while American star Kristen Santos-Griswold said that the ice is both grippy and fast, which is a perfect combination. She also praised the location of the venue and the beautiful park across the street.
Australia's Brendan Corey said that he enjoyed learning to paint a traditional Chinese opera mask and that he would love to see more of the culture in Beijing.
