A Triumph of Efficiency, Hospitality, and Legacy in Asian Winter Sports

A Triumph of Efficiency and Hospitality

The 9th Asian Winter Games, held in Harbin, China, have set a new standard for efficient event organization. Despite having less than two years to prepare, the city delivered the largest-scale Winter Asiad in history, showcasing the impressive development of ice and snow sports in Asia.

Harbin, known as the "Ice City," hosted a record 1,275 athletes from 34 countries and regions. The city's organizers were lauded for their professionalism and efficiency, ensuring a level playing field for all athletes, from world champions to ambitious newcomers.

The Games served as a platform for Asian athletes to prepare for the upcoming Winter Olympics in Italy. With its rich experience in hosting major sporting events, Harbin utilized existing venues and leveraged the expertise of personnel from the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics to ensure the highest standards.

The high quality of facilities and warm hospitality received positive feedback from athletes and officials. The Speed Skating Oval, built for the 1996 Asian Winter Games and refurbished for this event, was praised by esteemed sports official Chang Myong-hi as "one of the finest in the world."

Athletes were impressed by the competition venues, including the mountain slopes at the Yabuli resort. Pakistani athlete Muhammad Shabbir, competing in cross-country skiing for the first time, described the experience as "memorable" and praised the amazing tracks and snowy mountains.

To ensure the safety of all participants, especially those in high-risk alpine events, over 600 medical personnel were deployed, including first-aid professionals who could ski and speak English. Treatment and medical services were also available at 31 designated hospitals across the city.

Dr. Sultan Al Busaidi, chair of the OCA's medical committee, commended the organizers for their meticulous preparation and expressed confidence in the city's healthcare system. He also noted the comprehensive anti-doping measures implemented by the China Anti-Doping Agency and the International Testing Agency.

Harbin 2025 has not only been a successful sporting event but also a testament to the city's ability to host large-scale events efficiently and professionally. The Games have left a lasting legacy, promoting winter sports in Asia and providing a platform for athletes to excel on the international stage.
