In a message from New Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrated National Science Day by urging young minds to actively engage in scientific pursuits. He extended his greetings to all those passionate about science and encouraged them to play a key role in transforming India into a more advanced nation. The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of spreading scientific knowledge and innovation as vital tools for national development.
During the recent edition of his popular “Mann Ki Baat,” PM Modi proposed the idea of spending “One Day as a Scientist.” This initiative is meant to inspire the youth to participate in scientific activities by visiting research laboratories, planetariums, or space centres, thereby deepening their curiosity and understanding of science. In his previous address of the broadcast, he stressed the importance of nurturing a passion for science among children and young people.
National Science Day, celebrated on February 28, marks the anniversary of the discovery of the Raman Effect—a phenomenon involving the inelastic scattering of light by matter. This scientific breakthrough, announced in 1928, laid the foundation for Raman spectroscopy, a method widely used by chemists and physicists to study the interaction between light and materials. The observance of this day not only highlights significant achievements in science but also promotes innovation and addresses contemporary challenges by encouraging scientific exploration and technological development across India.
