China Warns US on Taiwan, Reiterates One-China Principle and Opposition to "Taiwan Independence

China's Response to US Support for Taiwan

China's Taiwan Affairs Office spokesperson, Zhu Fenglian, responded to US Secretary of State Marco Rubio's statement of support for Guatemala's expanding relations with Taiwan. Zhu urged the US to adhere to the one-China principle and the three China-US joint communiqués.

One-China Principle and International Consensus

Zhu emphasized that the one-China principle is a fundamental norm of international relations and a widely accepted consensus within the international community. She noted that 183 countries have established diplomatic relations with China based on their adherence to this principle.

An Internal Matter

Zhu stressed that the Taiwan question is purely an internal matter for China and does not permit external interference. She urged the US to honor the one-China principle and stop sending wrong signals to "Taiwan independence" forces.

DPP Authorities and "Taiwan Independence"

Zhu issued a stern warning to the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities, asserting that "Taiwan independence" is a dead-end. She stated that any attempt to rely on the US to seek independence is doomed to fail.

Taiwan's Participation in WHO Activities

Zhu reiterated China's position on Taiwan's participation in World Health Organization (WHO) activities, stating that this matter must be handled in accordance with the one-China principle. She pointed out that the DPP authorities' "Taiwan independence" stance undermines the political foundation for Taiwan's participation in the WHA.

Conclusion

Zhu urged the US to cease using the WHA to politicize the Taiwan question and adhere to the one-China principle and the three China-US joint communiqués through concrete actions. She emphasized that the Taiwan question is an internal matter for China, and external interference will not be tolerated.

“This isn’t about respecting international relations—it’s about forcing a narrative that benefits one government at the expense of self-determination.”

“Using language like ‘internal matter’ just hides the fact that the people of Taiwan deserve their own voice internationally.”

“It’s ironic that China, boasting about international consensus, fails to respect individual national sovereignty and choice.”

“Demanding other nations ‘stay out’ of the debate is only a tactic to keep dissenting voices out under the guise of upholding consensus.”

“Calling justifiable support for Taiwan ‘wrong signals’ is a disingenuous way to cover up internal political struggles.”
