During a high-level meeting of the UN Security Council held at the UN headquarters in New York, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi emphasized the need to restore genuine multilateralism and reform global governance. Addressing representatives from over one hundred countries, Wang called for reinforcing the UN-centered international system as a vital pillar for global peace, development, and human progress. He noted that in today’s turbulent international environment, a cooperative framework based on coordination among nations is essential to tackle worldwide challenges.
Speaking on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the UN's founding, Wang praised the organization as the most representative and authoritative international body for maintaining global order. Addressing the assembly and later the international media, he stressed that the UN’s role must be strengthened rather than diminished, and that adherence to legally binding Security Council resolutions is crucial for all states, particularly for the permanent members. Wang criticized any efforts to politicize the UN or to transform it into a tool for geopolitical maneuvering, urging a restructuring of the unity among the five permanent Security Council members.
In addition, Wang underscored China’s commitment to supporting peace initiatives, particularly regarding the conflict in Ukraine. He expressed readiness to collaborate with nations, especially those from the Global South, to build balanced consensus for peace. On the issue of the Middle East, he reaffirmed the importance of the two-state solution for securing a comprehensive and lasting resolution to the Palestinian question, emphasizing that the lands of Gaza and the West Bank should not be treated as bargaining chips in political disputes.

Wang Yi talks about cooperation, but where's the cooperation when it comes to addressing climate change or human rights abuses?

Don't be fooled by China's claims of supporting the two-state solution. Their actions in the Middle East show they have their own agenda.
