Beijing Criticizes US and Japan for Taiwan Policy Shifts

Chinese officials have issued a forceful rebuke to several countries, including the United States and Japan, over their recent remarks and policies connected to Taiwan. The Chinese Foreign Ministry criticized the U.S. for modifying its official stance on Taiwan by removing language that opposed "Taiwan independence" from an important fact sheet, calling the move a significant reversal of its established policy. Officials argued that such actions not only violate the one-China principle and important bilateral communiques but also send a dangerous message to separatist factions pushing for independence.

In further commentary, Chinese representatives underscored that Taiwan is an inherent part of China and that matters concerning its status are strictly internal and should not be subjected to external interference. They expressed particular dismay at what they described as the U.S. strategy of using Taiwan as a tool against China, warning that this approach, coupled with similar actions by Japan, undermines the peace and stability of the Taiwan Strait. Critics from various Chinese associations in the U.S. highlighted concerns over the administration's inconsistent policy towards China, urging a careful reevaluation of its actions.

Additionally, Beijing condemned moves by Japan to adjust its registration policies, which now allow naturalized citizens from Taiwan to register their origin as "Taiwan" rather than "China." This change, along with other provocative gestures by regional partners, was deemed historically insensitive and strategically destabilizing by Chinese officials. They maintained that all Chinese, regardless of which side of the strait they reside on, share a common heritage, and any external attempts to redefine Taiwan's status are unacceptable. Beijing reiterated its demand for strict adherence to the one-China principle by the implicated nations and called for a cessation of any attempts to use Taiwan as a pawn in geopolitical games.

China is committed to peaceful reunification with Taiwan. The use of force is a last resort.

China's response to Japan's policy change on Taiwan is justified. Japan should respect China's sovereignty.

China's aggressive rhetoric is concerning. Trying to bully other countries into accepting your definition of Taiwan is not the way to go.

The one-China policy is a fiction. Taiwan has never been part of the People's Republic of China.

Taiwan is not just another part of China. It has its own distinct identity and history.
