The animated fantasy film "Ne Zha 2" premiered in Los Angeles at the iconic Chinese Theater in Hollywood on February 8, 2025. The premiere was attended by hundreds of fans and filmmakers from both China and the United States. The event highlighted the film’s groundbreaking performance, having become the first to earn more than $1 billion within a single market and the initial non-Hollywood film to join the global billion-dollar club.
During the event, Li Zhiqiang, China’s deputy consul general in Los Angeles, remarked on the film’s tremendous success in China and its expanding influence on a global scale. He noted that pre-sales in North America were surging and emphasized the exciting potential for enhanced cooperation between Chinese and American media industries, particularly within film and television.
Hollywood producer Robert King also attended the screening and complimented the film for its visual grandeur and narrative prowess. He emphasized that Chinese cinema has made significant progress in its storytelling techniques and expressed optimism about future collaborations between Hollywood and China.
"Ne Zha 2" has already captivated audiences in its home country, thanks to its exquisite animation, imaginative visuals, and deep cultural narratives. Debuting on the first day of Chinese New Year and swiftly breaking records, the film has become China’s highest-grossing movie of all time. Following its success in China—with earnings surpassing 8.15 billion yuan (approximately 1.15 billion U.S. dollars)—the sequel to the 2019 hit "Ne Zha" is set for a broader international release, with screenings planned in North America, Australia, and New Zealand in leading IMAX venues.
