In a recent statement, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian criticized Jimmy Lai in connection with his testimony in a Hong Kong trial. Lin accused Lai of being a pivotal figure in orchestrating anti-China riots and portrayed him as a puppet used by anti-China entities. He stated that the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government bases its actions on the Basic Law and the National Security Law, ensuring that all measures taken are rooted in legal and rational principles.
Lin further reiterated that Hong Kong is governed by the rule of law, emphasizing that adherence to legal norms and the prosecution of those who break the law are fundamental to the region’s governance. He warned against misusing the concept of “democracy” as a shield for unlawful activities and for evading justice.
Highlighting the transparency and fairness of the judicial process in Hong Kong, Lin affirmed that the local courts operate independently, administering justice through procedures that are open and equitable. He concluded by stressing that the Central Government supports Hong Kong in safeguarding national security and taking decisive action against any acts that jeopardize it, while firmly rejecting external interference, particularly from Western countries attempting to undermine Hong Kong’s legal framework.
