The Commissioner's Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Hong Kong Condemns US Interference
The Commissioner's Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Hong Kong strongly condemned the recent actions of certain US politicians who interfered in Hong Kong's rule of law and China's internal affairs. The office expressed its dissatisfaction and resolute opposition to a letter sent by members of the Congressional-Executive Commission on China to US Secretary of State Antony Blinken.
The letter, according to the Commissioner's Office, contained malicious slander against Hong Kong's rule of law and human rights situation. It also expressed support for individuals like Jimmy Lai, who the office claims have crossed legal boundaries and challenged the constitutional order of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR).
The Commissioner's Office emphasized that Hong Kong's rule of law is internationally recognized and ranks higher than the US in the World Justice Project's "2024 Rule of Law Index." The office also stated that law enforcement and judicial authorities in the SAR are fulfilling their duties in accordance with the law, upholding legal authority, and defending national security.
The statement further criticized US politicians for turning a blind eye to their own country's human rights and rule of law issues while interfering in Hong Kong's judiciary. The office described this as a blatant violation of international law and the spirit of the rule of law.
The Commissioner's Office urged these US politicians to respect China's sovereignty and Hong Kong's rule of law, cease their political manipulation, and stop interfering in Hong Kong's affairs and China's internal matters.
