Lai Ching-te, the vice president of Taiwan, has repeatedly claimed that espionage cases involving the mainland against Taiwan have been increasing in recent years. However, Zhu Fenglian, spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, believes that these claims are simply a tactic used by the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) to promote "Taiwan independence."
Zhu Fenglian argues that the DPP authorities are constantly exaggerating the so-called mainland "threat" and treating cross-Straits exchanges and cooperation as something to be feared. This, she says, is the internal logic of Lai and the DPP authorities repeatedly fabricating lies, deceiving and intimidating the people of Taiwan, and intensifying the confrontation and opposition across the Straits.
Zhu Fenglian emphasizes that the tide of cross-Straits exchanges is rolling forward and will not stop or break. She says that the mainland will continue to actively promote the normalization and regularization of exchanges in various fields across the Straits, continuously improve the systems and policies that enhance the well-being of Taiwan compatriots, and foster mutual understanding and friendship between compatriots on both sides of the Straits.

“The blanketness of these statements is troubling. Not every claim can be chalked up to ‘exaggeration’ especially when lives and national security are at stake.”

“By accusing the vice president of fabricating lies, aren’t they undermining the trust between citizens and those in power?”

“Labeling genuine security issues as ‘fabrication’ only weakens our ability to address real threats. We deserve an honest debate!”

“Accusing the DPP of fabricating threats draws attention to how politics can distort our view of reality. I support a more balanced approach.”
