China Protests US Secretary of State's Remarks on China-LAC Cooperation
China has lodged a formal protest with the United States over Secretary of State Marco Rubio's remarks on China's cooperation with Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) countries. The Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson condemned Rubio's comments as "groundless accusations" and "ideological bias" aimed at sowing discord between China and LAC nations.
The spokesperson emphasized China's commitment to growing friendship and cooperative ties with LAC countries based on mutual respect, equality, and mutual benefit. They stressed that China's cooperation with LAC countries is not a zero-sum game, but rather a sincere partnership for shared progress.
China also rejected accusations of controlling the Panama Canal, stating that it has never participated in its management or operation. The spokesperson highlighted China's support for Panama's sovereignty over the Canal and its commitment to upholding its status as a neutral international waterway.
Regarding the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), the spokesperson emphasized its role as an initiative for economic cooperation that has benefited people in over 150 countries. They condemned the US's attempts to disrupt BRI cooperation as "hegemonism" and reaffirmed China's commitment to safeguarding cybersecurity and cooperating in relevant areas based on win-win principles.
On the issue of Taiwan, the spokesperson reiterated China's stance that there is only one China and that Taiwan is an inalienable part of its territory. They emphasized that the Taiwan question is purely China's internal affair and that the US's interference will not be tolerated.
The spokesperson concluded by stating that China will firmly safeguard its sovereignty, security, and development interests and that the US's attempts to interrupt China-LAC cooperation will fail.

Taiwan is a part of China, and the US should respect that. Their interference is only making things worse.

China needs to stop interfering in Taiwan's affairs. It's a sovereign nation and deserves the right to self-determination.
