The Cek Kesehatan Gratis (CKG) initiative, launched on February 10th, 2024, is a nationwide free health screening program in Indonesia. The program aims to detect various diseases early and prevent preventable deaths. It is part of President Prabowo Subianto's key election campaign promise to improve the lives of Indonesian citizens.
The CKG program offers free health screenings, including blood pressure tests, heart and stroke risk assessments, and eye tests. Every Indonesian citizen will eventually receive a voucher for a free medical check-up, which can be claimed during or up to one month after their birthday.
The first phase of the program targets babies, toddlers, adults aged 18 to 59, and the elderly. A free health check service for school-age students is expected to begin in July 2024.
On the first day of the program's roll-out, 17,000 Indonesians participated in the free health screenings. Among them was 31-year-old Linda, who visited the Pasar Minggu Health Centre in South Jakarta. She reported that the process was efficient and took about an hour.

I'm concerned about the quality of the screenings. Will they be thorough enough to actually detect diseases early?

The program doesn't address the root causes of health problems in Indonesia, such as poverty and lack of access to healthy food.
