China's top procuratorate has announced the addition of 60 technical investigators to its procuratorial teams, specifically focusing on intellectual property (IP) cases. These investigators, with expertise in fields such as telecommunication, chemistry, materials, medicines, and biology, will play a crucial role in handling technical issues within IP-related cases.
The appointment of these investigators aims to enhance the prosecution's ability to address technical challenges, as approximately 60% of IP cases involve technological aspects. The investigators, each with over five years of experience in their respective technical fields, will serve a five-year term with the possibility of renewal.
This initiative is not unprecedented in China's judicial system. Previously, specialized IP courts in Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangdong province had engaged technical investigators as expert advisors to assist judges in comprehending technical knowledge within IP disputes, thereby improving the efficiency and accuracy of case handling.
