At the recent International Stroke Conference in Los Angeles, Dr. Wang Yongjun was awarded the William M. Feinberg Award for Excellence in Clinical Stroke, an honor established by the American Stroke Association to commemorate the late William M. Feinberg, a leader in stroke research and clinical care. Dr. Wang, who serves as the president of both Beijing Tiantan Hospital at the Capital Medical University and the Chinese Stroke Association, was recognized for his pivotal role in advancing clinical stroke research.
During his address at the conference, Dr. Wang emphasized that his team’s efforts over the past three decades have yielded twelve significant pieces of evidence that have transformed clinical guidelines and practices in stroke care. Their research has opened up new avenues by expanding the options for intravenous thrombolysis and addressing its use beyond traditional time windows.
Dr. Wang also discussed ongoing clinical trials that include exploring thrombolytic therapy with Tenecteplase for various types of ischemic stroke, including minor strokes, basilar artery occlusions, and cases within extended time windows. He expressed optimism regarding the upcoming results from trials such as TRACE-4, TRACE-5, and TRACE-Beyond, which aim to further refine stroke treatment strategies.
Esteemed colleagues, including Professor Bijou Menon and Professor Tudor G. Jovin, praised Dr. Wang for his influential work in the fields of stroke prevention and acute care, noting that his research and leadership have had a profound global impact on vascular neurology. They highlighted his contributions to developing and organizing stroke care protocols and underscored his commitment to advancing clinical research through large-scale trials.
The international conference, which brought together around 4,000 professionals, served as a platform to showcase the latest developments in stroke prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation, underscoring its status as the premier event dedicated to the science of stroke and brain health.
