On Monday, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth made a commitment to bolster security at the southwestern border by deploying a significant number of active-duty troops. This initiative aligns with the focus of President Trump, who has prioritized reducing migrant crossings.
Accompanied by Thomas D. Homan, Trump’s designated border authority, Hegseth took an aerial tour of El Paso in a convoy of Army Black Hawk helicopters. The visit concluded on a remote hillside in the desert, where he addressed a gathering of soldiers, Border Patrol agents, and journalists, stating that the president tasked them with achieving complete operational oversight of the southern border.
Hegseth outlined that the strategy involves implementing the right policies, establishing effective procedures, and ensuring that the necessary personnel and technological resources are in place to support the effort.

This strategy is a reflection of a fear-based approach that doesn't address the root of the problem.

How many more lives will be impacted negatively by this harsh approach? It’s time we rethink our priorities.

What about humanitarian aid? We should be helping refugees, not sending troops!

Let’s ensure that those coming into our country are doing so legally. This is a proactive measure.

Security shouldn't be prioritized over compassion. We need to show humanity, not hostility.
