President Donald Trump addressed House Republicans at a GOP issues conference held at his Trump National Doral golf course and resort near Miami. During his speech, Trump promised that the U.S. border would be secured through a reconciliation package.
Trump also acknowledged the ongoing debate within the Republican party regarding the approach to enacting their legislative priorities. While some members favor a two-bill strategy under the budget reconciliation process, Trump and others have historically advocated for a single, comprehensive bill.
Despite the differing viewpoints, Trump emphasized the importance of achieving results regardless of the chosen approach. He stated, "We don't want to get hung up on the budget process... whether it's one bill, two bills, I don't care. They're going to work it out one way or the other. But the bottom line, the end result, is going to be the same."
In addition to border security, Trump also outlined plans to pursue tax cuts and reforms, drawing inspiration from the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. He expressed his commitment to extending the provisions of that act, many of which are set to expire in 2025.
Trump further announced his intention to sign several executive orders focusing on military reforms. These include the creation of an "Iron Dome" missile defense system modeled after Israel's, the eradication of "transgender ideology" from the military, and the reinstatement of service members who were discharged for refusing the COVID-19 vaccine.
Concluding his speech, Trump urged Republicans to maintain unity amidst their slim majorities in both the House and Senate. He emphasized the importance of collaboration and solidarity, stating, "We have to stick together. We have to work together. We have to fight together. We're going to win together... We have a chance to win like never before, as long as we stay united.
