The Japan Innovation Party, known as Nippon Ishin no Kai, is in the process of considering Hiroshi Nakatsuka, a member of the House of Representatives, for the position of secretary-general. Sources have indicated that Takashi Endo is expected to resume his role as chief of parliamentary affairs, while Alex Saito is likely to step in as the party's policy chief. An official announcement regarding these appointments is set to occur on Tuesday.
Hiroshi Nakatsuka has a background in journalism prior to entering politics, having served as a lawmaker in Osaka Prefecture and as mayor of Hirakata, a city in Osaka. He was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2021 and is currently serving in his second term.
The recent performance of Nippon Ishin in the House of Councillors election was disappointing, as the party was unable to secure constituency seats outside its stronghold in the Kansai region. Furthermore, the total votes received under proportional representation fell to a historic low, prompting resignations from then co-leader Seiji Maehara and Secretary-General Ryohei Iwatani. In response to these challenges, Fumitake Fujita has assumed the role of co-leader for the party.

Disappointing election results, and they respond with more of the same people? No wonder they're losing voters.

Nakatsuka is a solid choice. He has experience in local government and understands the needs of the people.

Fujita as co-leader may not fix the underlying problems within the party.

Proportional representation votes at a historic low? This is a serious sign of voters' waning confidence in the party.
