The District Magistrate of North West Delhi has refuted allegations made by the Congress party that their candidate, Sushant Mishra, was attacked and injured by an officer of the Election Commission of India. The Congress party claims that Mishra was stopped from carrying out a foot march and that the incident was an "unprecedented and illegal act."
The Congress leader, Jairam Ramesh, has called the alleged incident a "desperate attempt by the AAP and BJP to stop Sushant's candidature and the growing support for the Congress party." He has also accused the officer of the Election Commission of "partisan behaviour."
In response to these allegations, the North West Delhi DM has stated that the Flying Squad Teams (FST) and election staff are conducting their duties "fairly and impartially to ensure a level playing field." The DM has also said that the Congress party had not obtained the proper permissions for their campaign and that the campaigning was taking place in an area that was not covered under the stated permission.
The Delhi Assembly Elections are scheduled to be held on February 5 and the counting of votes will take place on February 8.
