Authorities in Naha have made the decision not to pursue charges against a U.S. Marine stationed in Okinawa Prefecture involved in a sexual assault case from November. During a press conference on January 23, deputy chief prosecutor Daisuke Kodama explained that after reviewing the available evidence, they concluded that building a case for non-consensual sexual activity resulting in injury would be challenging.
The investigation started when a local woman reported the assault at a building on the main island of Okinawa. Following the report, the Marines were questioned, and authorities collaborated with the U.S. military in the investigation, which included identifying the Marine suspect through security camera footage. The Okinawa prefectural police forwarded their findings to prosecutors on January 8.

It's important to remember that everyone involved in this case is a human being who deserves to be treated with respect. We should avoid making personal attacks or using hateful language.

This decision sends a message that the lives of Okinawans are not worth as much as the lives of Americans. This is unacceptable and we will not stand for it.

The US military has cooperated with the investigation, and that should be acknowledged. It's important to remember that the vast majority of US military personnel stationed in Okinawa are law-abiding citizens.

My heart breaks for the victim. They must be feeling so alone and betrayed right now. The authorities have failed them, and the US military has shown once again that they do not care about the safety of Okinawans.

We should avoid making inflammatory statements that could further escalate tensions. This is a sensitive issue, and it's important to remain calm and respectful.

How can we trust the authorities to protect us when they let someone like this walk free? This is a disgrace to the justice system and a betrayal of the public's trust.

We should have faith in the justice system and allow the process to run its course. The authorities have made a decision based on the available evidence, and we should respect that decision.
