The Ministry of Culture and Tourism (MCT) of China announced on Friday that group tour services will soon be reinstated for residents of Fujian and Shanghai traveling to Taiwan. This decision has been characterized as a positive step towards fulfilling the shared hopes of individuals on both sides of the Taiwan Straits who seek greater interaction and collaboration, according to Chen Binhua, spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office.
Chen emphasized that this initiative reflects the aspirations of people in Taiwan for peace, development, and better communication. He also expressed hope that the Democratic Progressive Party authorities in Taiwan would recognize public sentiment and industry interests, urging them to lift the "ban on group tours" and remove travel advisories for individuals visiting the mainland. Additionally, he called for the restoration of direct flights and travel destinations between the two regions to foster increased personnel exchanges.
The decision to resume group tours is intended to normalize interactions between the people of Taiwan and the mainland, fulfilling demands from both the local population and the tourism sector in Taiwan. The MCT is preparing for this initiative and encourages tourism businesses on both sides to collaborate in providing high-quality services and experiences for group tours to Taiwan from the mainland.

Taiwan’s identity is at stake here – we must prioritize our culture and independence over tourism profits.

Taiwan shouldn’t lift any bans until there is clear evidence that the mainland respects our autonomy.
