Texas Man Arrested for Stabbing Mother After Demanding Her Wallet
Joseph Anthony Abreu, a 35-year-old man from Texas with a history of criminal offenses, was arrested after allegedly breaking into his mother's home and stabbing her when she refused to hand over her wallet.
The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon in Houston. Abreu reportedly kicked down the door of the Farnsworth Street home, located about six miles north of Downtown Houston, and demanded his mother's wallet. When she refused, he pushed her and stabbed her.
The victim, a 58-year-old woman, was transported to a nearby hospital in stable condition. Abreu, a convicted felon, fled the scene but was apprehended the following day.
He has been charged with aggravated assault of a family member and burglary with intent to commit another felony. This is not Abreu's first encounter with the law.
In 2015, he was convicted of prostitution in Harris County. In 2021, he attempted to purchase a gun from an Academy Sports and Outdoors store despite being legally prohibited from owning firearms due to his criminal record.
During the attempted gun purchase, Abreu reportedly told the clerk, "Man, that's fine, I got eight rounds to kill eight people today." The clerk refused to sell him the gun and contacted the police.
Abreu subsequently pleaded guilty and was sentenced to four years in prison for attempted possession of a firearm by a felon. He is currently being held in the Harris County Jail on a $202,500 bond and is scheduled to appear in court later today.
