Protecting Election Integrity in 2022
In anticipation of potential legal challenges from Republicans to Democratic victories in the upcoming November elections, a group of Democratic strategists has launched the Democracy Defenders PAC. This initiative comes in response to the wave of election denialism witnessed at both federal and state levels during the 2020 election.
The PAC, led by former President Barack Obama's 2012 campaign manager Jim Messina, aims to provide resources and support to state parties and allies on the ground. This will ensure that every American can cast their vote with confidence and without interference.
Messina emphasizes the seriousness of the situation, stating, "We are not messing around with this — too much is on the line and we’ve seen what Trump is capable of when he loses an election fair and square."
The 2020 election saw Trump falsely claim victory and allege widespread voter fraud, despite the lack of evidence. This culminated in the January 6th Capitol riot, where thousands of his supporters attempted to disrupt the confirmation of President Joe Biden's legitimate win.
Trump currently faces criminal charges in Fulton County, Georgia, alongside his former attorney Rudy Giuliani and others, for election interference.
The Democracy Defenders PAC aims to combat the threats and intimidation faced by election officials. Since Trump left office, four secretaries of state have reported receiving death threats for carrying out their duties. A 2022 survey by the Brennan Center for Justice revealed that one in six election workers have been threatened due to their job.
In response, the Cobb County, Georgia Board of Commissioners has approved nearly $50,000 in funding for panic buttons for election workers this November. Commission Chairwoman Lisa Cupid expressed concern over the threats faced by election officials, stating that it is "unfortunate" that they feel a level of concern and threats they have not experienced in the past.
The Democracy Defenders PAC stands as a crucial initiative to protect the integrity of the upcoming elections and ensure that every American can exercise their right to vote without fear or intimidation.

This is just an attempt to distract from the things Democrats need to fix within their party and policies.

I fully support this initiative. The threats against election workers are unacceptable and must be addressed!

I find it hard to believe that so many ‘election workers’ are actually threatened, it's all part of the Democratic playbook.

A PAC like this only serves to scare people and paint the opposition as enemies rather than fostering healthy political discourse.
