Trump Jokes About Supporters' Well-Being Amidst Heat-Related Emergencies at Las Vegas Rally
Donald Trump's recent rally in Las Vegas, Nevada, has sparked renewed criticism regarding his apparent disregard for the well-being of his supporters. The rally, held in the scorching summer heat, saw thousands of fans gather to hear the former president speak.
Trump himself acknowledged the heat, even joking that his campaign had advised attendees not to come, resulting in a smaller-than-expected crowd of 20,000. However, it was his comment about caring only for his supporters' votes, not their well-being, that drew the most attention.
"I don't want anybody going on me. We need every voter," he said. "I don't care about you. I just want your vote." While his supporters laughed, Trump went on to claim that reporters would misinterpret his words, painting him as insensitive.
Despite his humor, Trump couldn't resist complaining about the heat throughout the rally. He claimed it was 110 degrees Fahrenheit, though local reports suggest it was likely lower. Notably, he remained in his trademark heavy coat and tie throughout the speech, which may have contributed to its short duration.
After the rally concluded, local media reported that nearly two dozen attendees had been treated for heat-related issues, with six requiring hospitalization. Climate Power, a communications firm focused on climate and environmental issues, criticized Trump's remarks, arguing that he prioritizes his own interests over the well-being of his supporters.
Trump's speech focused heavily on attacking America's immigrant population, labeling them as criminals, mentally unstable, and unproductive members of society. He dismissed his opponent's efforts to address border security through executive orders as "bulls," claiming it would actually increase illegal immigration.
This rally marked a contrast to Trump's recent appearance at the Libertarian Party's national convention in Washington D.C., where he was met with loud boos from delegates. Despite this, polls currently show Trump leading President Joe Biden in Nevada, a state Biden won in 2020.
