Permanent Fare Integration
As of November 1, the German national railway operator, Deutsche Bahn, has officially transitioned its popular family ticket offer into a permanent fixture of its long-distance travel portfolio. Previously available as a promotional campaign, the 99-euro fare is now a standard option for families traveling across Germany.
Details of the Offer
The ticket is designed to provide cost certainty for families planning travel on ICE and IC/EC trains. Key features of the permanent offer include:
- A fixed price of 99 euros for a one-way trip.
- Applicable for up to two adults and their own children or grandchildren.
- Valid for children up to the age of 14.
- Availability across the entire long-distance network in Germany.
Strategic Objectives
The decision to standardize the family ticket aligns with Deutsche Bahn's broader strategy to increase passenger numbers and promote sustainable transport. By removing the uncertainty of fluctuating ticket prices, the operator seeks to make rail travel more accessible for holidaymakers and those visiting relatives. A company spokesperson noted that the move is part of an effort to 'make train travel the first choice for families throughout the country.'
Booking and Conditions
Travelers can book the tickets through the official Deutsche Bahn website, the DB Navigator app, and at station travel centers. While the price is fixed, the company reminds passengers that seat reservations are not included in the base price and should be booked separately to ensure families can sit together during their journey.
