This development signifies a major step in China's ongoing naval modernization efforts and is expected to significantly enhance its undersea warfare capabilities.

Advanced Design and Capabilities

The Type 09V SSGN represents a 'clean-sheet design' and a generational leap in Chinese submarine technology. Its estimated submerged displacement ranges from 9,000 to 10,000 tons, with some analyses suggesting up to 10,700 tonnes, making it considerably larger than its predecessor, the Type 09III class. The submarine measures approximately 110-115 meters (360 feet) in length and 12-13 meters (40 feet) in width.
