India to Host Landmark AI Impact Summit 2026 in New Delhi
India is preparing to host the prestigious AI Impact Summit 2026 in New Delhi, scheduled primarily for February 19-20, 2026, with associated events running from February 16-20. This flagship global gathering, organized by the Government of India under the IndiaAI Mission and in collaboration with the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY), aims to position India at the forefront of global AI discourse. The summit will take place at Bharat Mandapam.
The event marks a significant shift in the global conversation around artificial intelligence, moving beyond discussions of 'safety' and 'action' to focus on the tangible 'impact' of AI. It follows previous international AI summits held in Bletchley Park (2023), Seoul (2024), and Paris (2025).
Championing the 'Planet Sutra' for Sustainable AI
A central theme of the summit will be the promotion of the 'Planet Sutra,' a global mandate advocating for AI development that is intrinsically linked with resource efficiency and climate resilience. The 'Planet Sutra' calls for AI to advance innovation responsibly, minimizing its environmental footprint while accelerating efforts in climate resilience and environmental protection. This principle underscores the necessity for technological progress to align with planetary stewardship, ensuring AI strengthens global sustainability rather than undermining it.
The summit's overarching framework is guided by three foundational 'Sutras': People, Planet, and Progress. Discussions will further delve into seven thematic 'Chakras':
- Human Capital
- Inclusion
- Safe & Trusted AI
- Resilience
- Science
- Democratizing AI Resources
- Social Good
These themes highlight how AI can be a powerful force for citizens, communities, and the planet.
Global Participation and Key Initiatives
The AI Impact Summit 2026 is expected to draw a diverse array of participants, including policymakers, researchers, industry leaders, startups, civil society representatives, and international organizations. Projections indicate the attendance of over 100 global CEOs and approximately 15 to 20 heads of state and ministers from various nations. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is anticipated to inaugurate the event.
In the run-up to the main summit, India has been organizing a series of eight Regional AI Impact Conferences across the country, such as the Uttar Pradesh Regional AI Impact Conference 2026 in Lucknow. The summit will also feature several key initiatives and exhibitions:
- The India AI Impact Expo 2026 for Responsible Intelligence, showcasing over 300 exhibitors from India and more than 30 countries.
- The AI for All: Global Impact Challenge, identifying AI solutions for large-scale impact.
- The AI by HER: Global Impact Challenge, promoting women-led AI solutions for social impact.
- The YUVAi - Global Youth Challenge, fostering innovation among youth aged 13-21.
- A dedicated Research Symposium.
These initiatives underscore India's commitment to inclusive innovation and its role in shaping the future of AI for global good.

India taking a leadership role in global AI discourse is a significant step, but the 'Planet Sutra' will only gain traction if it includes diverse perspectives and addresses the concerns of developing nations effectively.

All talk, no action. How can AI be 'sustainable' when its energy footprint is growing exponentially?

The initiatives for inclusive innovation are admirable, however, ensuring that these programs genuinely reach and empower marginalized communities, rather than just benefiting existing tech hubs, will be the true measure of success.
