Historic Meeting in Beijing
On Wednesday, January 7, 2026, Chinese State Councilor and Minister of Public Security Wang Xiaohong held a comprehensive meeting with Pakistan's Minister for Interior and Narcotics Control Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi in Beijing. The three-and-a-half-hour discussion, held at the headquarters of China's Ministry of Public Security, aimed at significantly deepening law enforcement and security cooperation between the two nations.
Key Areas of Enhanced Cooperation
The high-level talks resulted in several key agreements designed to bolster the strategic partnership between China and Pakistan. Both ministers agreed to strengthen rapid response mechanisms against terrorism and crime and to expand the scope of police training exchange programs.
Specific areas of cooperation outlined include:
- Deepening collaboration in personnel, project, and institutional security.
- Enhancing law enforcement capacity building.
- Jointly addressing various risks and challenges, including cybercrimes and telecommunications and online fraud.
- Pakistan's commitment to benefiting from Chinese expertise and AI-based technologies for counter-terrorism and cybercrime prevention.
Minister Naqvi also briefed the Chinese side on the security arrangements for Chinese nationals and projects in Pakistan, emphasizing that their safety is a 'top priority'. In this regard, Pakistan announced the establishment of a special protection unit in Islamabad dedicated to ensuring the security of Chinese citizens.
Commitment to Regular Dialogue
To ensure sustained progress, both sides agreed on a structured approach to future engagements. A Joint Working Group on security will convene every three months, while the Interior Ministers of both countries will hold annual meetings.
Chinese State Councilor Wang Xiaohong expressed satisfaction with Pakistan's security measures and praised its efforts in counter-terrorism and internal security, acknowledging China's high regard for Pakistan's sacrifices in the fight against terrorism. Minister Naqvi extended an invitation to Wang Xiaohong to visit Pakistan, while Wang Xiaohong invited Naqvi to participate in the Global Security Cooperation Forum scheduled to be held in China in September.
