Xiaomi Sets Ambitious 2026 EV Sales Goal
Chinese consumer electronics giant Xiaomi has announced an ambitious target to deliver 550,000 electric vehicles (EVs) in 2026. This goal was revealed by Lei Jun, Xiaomi's founder, chairman, and CEO, during a recent New Year live stream. The new target represents a significant increase of approximately 34% over the company's impressive 2025 delivery figures.
The announcement underscores Xiaomi's rapid ascent in the highly competitive electric vehicle market, particularly in its home country of China. The company's EV division has quickly established itself as a formidable player since its formal entry into the automotive industry in March 2021.
Exceeding Previous Targets and Market Performance
Xiaomi's confidence in its EV venture stems from its strong performance in 2025, during which it delivered over 410,000 vehicles. This figure significantly surpassed its initial 2025 delivery target of 300,000 units, which was later revised to 350,000 units and ultimately exceeded ahead of schedule. The company's EV business also achieved its first quarterly profit in the third quarter of 2025, signaling a positive financial trajectory.
Currently, Xiaomi's EV lineup includes the SU7 electric sedan, launched in March 2024, and the YU7 SUV, which debuted in June 2025. These models have contributed to Xiaomi's swift momentum in the market.
Future Product Pipeline and Production Capacity
To support its aggressive 2026 sales target, Xiaomi plans to introduce several new models. The company intends to launch four new vehicles in 2026, including:
- A facelifted SU7 sedan
- An SU7 Executive Edition
- A five-seat extended-range SUV
- A seven-seat extended-range SUV
Xiaomi operates a two-phase manufacturing facility in Beijing, boasting a cumulative annual production capacity of 300,000 vehicles, with each phase capable of producing 150,000 units. The first phase of the plant commenced mass production in March 2024.
Navigating Challenges and International Ambitions
Despite its rapid growth, Xiaomi's EV journey has not been without challenges. The company has faced scrutiny regarding the safety of its assisted driving technology, leading to a recall related to the SU7 model. Lei Jun acknowledged during the live stream that Xiaomi needed to adjust its 'fine print marketing' practices and address consumer perceptions.
Looking beyond China, Xiaomi has outlined plans for international expansion, with 2027 slated as its 'first year of overseas expansion.' This strategy includes establishing a new research and development center in Munich, Germany.

It's great to see a new player shake up the EV market with such aggressive goals. However, the existing recall issues indicate they still have significant work to do on reliability and trust.
