Incident Unfolds in Glen Burnie Neighborhood
Two individuals were injured on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, in Glen Burnie, Maryland, after federal immigration agents opened fire during an enforcement operation. The incident took place around 10:51 a.m. in the 500 block of West Court in the Parke West neighborhood of Anne Arundel County. Agents with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) were conducting a targeted operation when the confrontation occurred.
Alleged Attempt to Ram Agents Leads to Shooting
According to statements from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), ICE agents approached a white van as part of their operation and instructed the driver to turn off the vehicle. The driver allegedly refused these commands, instead ramming multiple ICE vehicles before driving directly at the agents in an apparent attempt to run them over. In response, agents 'defensively fired their service weapons,' striking the driver. DHS spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin stated that agents fired 'fearing for their lives and public safety.' The van subsequently crashed into a wooded area behind nearby homes, injuring a passenger.
Injured Identified, Investigations Underway
The driver, identified as Tiago Alexandre Sousa-Martins, an undocumented immigrant from Portugal, was shot and transported to a hospital in stable condition. ICE officials indicated that Sousa-Martins had overstayed a visa that expired in 2009. The passenger, identified as Solomon Antonio Serrano-Esquivel, an undocumented immigrant from El Salvador, sustained minor injuries during the crash and was also hospitalized. Both individuals are expected to recover. No ICE agents were severely injured during the incident.
Multiple agencies have launched investigations into the event:
- The Anne Arundel County Police Department is investigating the shooting itself.
- The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is investigating the alleged assault on federal agents.
- ICE is conducting an internal review through its Office of Professional Responsibility.
Maryland Governor Wes Moore acknowledged the incident, stating that his office was monitoring the situation and in contact with local authorities. ICE released a statement asserting that 'Continued efforts to encourage illegal aliens and violent agitators to actively resist ICE will only lead to more violent incidents.'

Resisting arrest, especially by driving at agents, is incredibly dangerous and wrong, yet the immediate use of lethal force always warrants a thorough investigation into all available alternatives.

Targeting immigrants and then shooting them. Disgusting.

Another day, another ICE shooting. Excessive force again.

While officers have a right to defend themselves against a vehicle weaponized, the escalation to gunfire in a residential area raises concerns about public safety for everyone.

'Alleged attempt to ram'? Sounds like a cover story.
