Leadership Convenes in Beijing
The 14th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), China's top political advisory body, held its 45th Chairperson's Council meeting in Beijing on Wednesday, December 24, 2025. The meeting was presided over by Wang Huning, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the CPPCC National Committee.
Key Directives and Economic Focus
During the session, Chairman Wang Huning called upon political advisors to diligently study and implement the guiding principles established at the recent Central Economic Work Conference. A primary objective was to provide expert advice on carrying out the conference's decisions and to foster greater confidence in the nation's economic development.
Furthermore, advisors were urged to study and implement the guiding principles from the CPC Central Committee's recent symposium with non-CPC personages. This emphasis underscores the CPPCC's role in gathering broad input for national governance.
Strengthening Governance and Future Plans
The meeting also stressed the importance of studying the guiding principles of discipline inspection work. This is aimed at consolidating progress in implementing the Party Central Committee's eight-point decision on improving Party and government conduct. Political advisors were encouraged to contribute to enhancing the system of socialist rule of law with Chinese characteristics and strengthening cyberspace governance.
A significant decision made at the meeting was the appointment of Liu Jieyi as the spokesperson for the fourth session of the 14th CPPCC National Committee. Additionally, the meeting adopted, in principle, the CPPCC National Committee's work priorities for 2026, setting the agenda for the advisory body's future endeavors.

Economic promises ring hollow. It's all top-down control, not real growth or innovation.

Strong leadership is vital for national progress. This meeting shows clear direction for China.

While the emphasis on economic stability is understandable given global challenges, the methods for achieving it often lack transparency, making it hard to assess true impact or public benefit.

It's positive that they're calling for broad input from non-CPC personages, but the extent to which diverse and critical opinions are genuinely integrated remains a significant question for real pluralism.

An 'advisory' body with no real power. This is just for show, as usual, consolidating control.
