Holiday Cheer Spreads in Agua Prieta
On December 24, 2025, the spirit of Christmas shone brightly in Agua Prieta, Sonora, Mexico, as a dedicated group of coaches and volunteers distributed hundreds of Christmas presents to children in the city's underprivileged neighborhoods. This annual act of generosity aimed to bring joy and holiday cheer to families facing economic challenges in the border community.
A Collaborative Effort for the Community
The gift-giving event was a collaborative effort involving several key figures and organizations. Among the prominent participants was Coach Jeff Scurran, known for his consistent involvement in holiday gift distributions across borderland communities, including previous efforts in Ciudad Juarez. He was joined by Magaly Moreno from the charity 'Un Pedacito Del Cielo' (A Little Piece of Heaven), who played a crucial role in organizing the distribution.
Further support came from the local motorcycle club, 'Los Zainos' of Agua Prieta, whose members actively helped raise funds for the presents. Eduardo Cisneros, a member of 'Los Zainos', expressed the club's satisfaction, stating, 'When you get the kids and get them happy, all the families together.. that's our satisfaction as a club.' Another member, Enrique Solis, originally from Chihuahua, Mexico, echoed this sentiment, calling it 'a beautiful feeling to get these kids gifts for Christmas.'
Bringing Smiles to Underprivileged Neighborhoods
The distribution took place in some of Agua Prieta's more marginal neighborhoods, including a community boxing gym located in Colonia Buenos Aires. For many of the young recipients, these gifts represented the only presents they would receive during the Christmas season. Six-year-old Paulette, one of the children who received a gift, happily exclaimed, 'I'm really happy for Christmas,' as she showed off her presents.
Agua Prieta, a border city situated across from Douglas, Arizona, faces significant economic and healthcare challenges, with many residents earning less than $10 per day. These annual initiatives provide much-needed relief and a moment of happiness for children and families in these vulnerable areas.

This event clearly brought much-needed cheer to an underprivileged community, showcasing the power of generosity. Still, it underscores the ongoing need for broader economic development and support systems for border cities like Agua Prieta.

Band-Aid solution. These kids need systemic change, not just one day of gifts.

Seeing the smiles on the children's faces is heartwarming and a testament to human kindness. But it's a stark reminder of the desperate conditions many families face, which shouldn't be forgotten once the holidays pass.
