Investigation Update: Arrest and Release
A woman in her 20s, who was arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with the death of Daniel Aruebose, has been released without charge. The arrest was made on Monday, December 22, 2025, as part of the ongoing homicide investigation into the toddler's death. Following questioning, Gardaí confirmed her release on Tuesday morning, December 23, 2025, stating that a file will now be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions. Investigations are continuing.
Discovery of Remains and Homicide Inquiry
The skeletal remains of Daniel Aruebose were discovered in Donabate, north Dublin, on September 17, 2025, following an extensive search. DNA analysis subsequently confirmed the remains to be those of Daniel.
Concerns regarding Daniel's welfare were initially brought to the attention of Gardaí by Tusla, the child and family agency, on August 29, 2025. This followed checks by officials from the Department of Social Protection concerning a social welfare payment linked to the boy.
The investigation, which began as a missing person inquiry, was officially upgraded to a homicide investigation on December 11, 2025. This upgrade occurred shortly before what would have been Daniel's eighth birthday, granting investigators broader powers for warrants and court orders.
Daniel Aruebose: A Brief History
Daniel Aruebose was born in December 2017 and is believed to have died sometime in 2021, at approximately three and a half years old. He was last seen alive at his home in The Gallery Apartments in Donabate.
Reports indicate that Daniel had spent time in state care after his birth, being placed in foster care for about 18 months. His parents later changed their minds, and he was returned to their care in 2020. Conflicting accounts have emerged regarding the circumstances of his death, with some suggesting natural causes and a panicked burial, while others point towards a violent death.
Ongoing Investigation
Gardaí continue to appeal to the public for any information that could assist their investigation. They have urged individuals not to assume that information they possess is already known or insignificant, and to contact Swords Garda Station or the Garda Confidential Line.

Tusla and Gardaí clearly dropped the ball here, utterly disgraceful.

While the Gardaí must follow proper procedure, the lack of charges after an arrest leaves many questions unanswered for Daniel's memory. It's a difficult balance between thoroughness and achieving timely justice.

While it's frustrating to see someone released, it's crucial that any charges are solid to avoid wrongful convictions. The focus must remain on gathering irrefutable evidence.

The legal system requires strong evidence for a charge, which is understandable. Yet, the fact that a child's remains were found after such a long time raises serious questions about oversight and accountability for his care.

Better to release than charge the wrong person. Patience is key.

Good, they're not rushing to judgment. Due process matters.

The conflicting accounts of Daniel's death highlight the challenge for investigators, but the delay in finding his remains and identifying him is deeply concerning for child protection services.

Unacceptable. How can they just release a prime suspect?

This case is dragging on too long. Someone knows something!
