Reactivation Process Commences for SuperVia Senior Gratuity Cards
Starting on December 22, 2025, beneficiaries of the SuperVia senior gratuity card in Rio de Janeiro whose cards display an 'expired usage type' message will be able to reactivate them. This initiative aims to ensure continued access to free public transport for eligible seniors in the region.
Where and How to Reactivate
The reactivation process will take place at the Espaço Gratuidade, located within the Central do Brasil Agency. Seniors seeking to reactivate their cards will not require a prior appointment, allowing for a more streamlined process. The Espaço Gratuidade operates from Monday to Friday, with service hours from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM and from 1:10 PM to 5:00 PM.
Important Guidelines for Beneficiaries
SuperVia has outlined specific conditions for the reactivation. It is important to note that new senior gratuity cards will not be issued. Only existing cards that are legible will be eligible for reactivation.
In cases where a card is deemed illegible or ineligible for reactivation, the ticket agent at the station will have the authority to collect it. Under such circumstances, the senior beneficiary must then present an official original document with a photo to secure free passage.
For individuals over 65 years of age who do not possess a SuperVia senior gratuity card, the established procedure remains unchanged: they should continue to use an official original photo identification document to access free travel on the railway system. This right to free travel for seniors over 65 is guaranteed by law.
Ensuring Continued Access to Public Transport
This reactivation period underscores SuperVia's commitment to facilitating access to public transportation for the elderly population of Rio de Janeiro. By reactivating expired cards and maintaining clear guidelines for those without cards, the company aims to uphold the legal right to gratuity for seniors.

Finally, some clarity! No appointment needed makes it so much easier.

The effort to reactivate existing cards is a practical solution for many. But the policy of not issuing new cards and relying solely on photo ID for those without one could create confusion and anxiety for some beneficiaries.

Collecting illegible cards then using ID? Sounds like unnecessary hassle for vulnerable people.
