Strategic Alliance Formed in Warsaw
Brazilian aerospace company Embraer has officially entered a new phase of strategic collaboration with Poland, signing five Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa S.A. (PGZ), Poland's leading state-owned defense group, and its key subsidiaries. The agreements were formalized on December 2, 2025, during an event in Warsaw, Poland, marking a significant step towards long-term cooperation in the aviation and defense sectors.
This extensive partnership aims to deepen Embraer's industrial presence within Poland and support the creation of highly skilled jobs, reinforcing the commitment of both entities to strengthen ties and foster industrial growth.
Broad Scope of Cooperation
The newly signed MoUs lay the groundwork for a wide array of industrial partnership opportunities. Embraer and PGZ will jointly explore various avenues, including:
- Operational support
- Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) services
- Component manufacturing
- Supply chain solutions
- Design, development, production, industrialization, engineering, and testing of aerospace systems
The potential scope of collaboration may also extend into C4ISR-related activities (Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance).
Subsidiary-Specific Engagements
The agreements involve several PGZ subsidiaries, each with specific areas of focus:
- With WZL-1, the partnership will explore cooperation in metallic and composite component manufacturing, technology transfer, certification and quality assurance, and emerging aerospace technologies, all contributing to strengthening Poland's industrial capabilities.
- The MoU with WZL-2 focuses on potential MRO collaboration for the KC-390 Millennium and other aircraft types, alongside paint services.
- An agreement with WSK “PZL-Kalisz” considers future cooperation in component manufacturing, mechanical and heat-treatment processes, training initiatives, and consulting services.
- The MoU with WBCKT will assess opportunities for the joint development of ground support equipment (GSE) specifically tailored for the KC-390 Millennium multi-mission transport aircraft.
During the signing event, Embraer presented its KC-390 Millennium multi-mission transport aircraft and highlighted the counter-UAS capabilities of the A-29 Super Tucano.
Statements from Leadership
Jan Grabowski, Vice President of the Management Board of PGZ S.A., emphasized the strategic importance of the partnership, stating that 'Thanks to the agreements signed with Embraer, the PGZ Group gains a partner who is one of the largest aviation companies in the world. Today's event confirms that we are ready to establish long-term cooperation, which will translate into increased potential for the Polish defense industry, technology transfer, and the acquisition of new competencies in one of the key areas of the modern battlefield.'
Bosco Da Costa Junior, President and CEO of Embraer Defense & Security, echoed this sentiment, remarking, 'At Embraer, the concept of cooperation is part of our DNA. The agreements we signed today lay a solid foundation for a long-term partnership that will effectively place Poland at the center of the industrial ecosystem we are creating in Europe.'

The strategic alliance with Embraer certainly bolsters Poland's defense industry by bringing in global expertise. However, the long-term success will depend heavily on the actual implementation of these MoUs and fair distribution of benefits.

Another deal that likely benefits the big players more than local SMEs.

This collaboration with a major aerospace company like Embraer is a clear signal of Poland's growing industrial potential. Still, the devil is in the details of these agreements; hopefully, they prioritize Polish interests beyond just component manufacturing.

The intent to strengthen Poland's industrial presence and create skilled jobs is commendable. However, MoUs are just the start, and the real challenge will be navigating potential conflicts of interest and ensuring equitable technology sharing.

While this partnership promises significant job creation and tech transfer for Poland, it's crucial to ensure it doesn't stifle indigenous innovation in the long run. We need to maintain a balance between collaboration and self-sufficiency.
