Argentina and Poland Sign Memorandum to Bolster Economic Cooperation

Historic Agreement Signed in Buenos Aires

Argentina and Poland officially cemented their commitment to deepen economic cooperation and trade relations with the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Wednesday, November 28, 2025. The agreement was formalized during the Argentina-Poland Economic Forum held in Buenos Aires, marking a significant step in bilateral relations that span over a century.

The MoU was signed by Pawel Pudlowski, vice-president of the Polish Investment and Trade Agency, and Diego Sucalesca, head of the Agencia Argentina de Inversiones y Comercio Internacional (AAICI). The signing coincided with the arrival of a delegation of 22 Polish companies in the Argentine capital, with plans for meetings with over 100 Argentine firms across various productive sectors.

'Perfect Match' for Enhanced Partnership

Polish officials expressed strong optimism regarding the future of the partnership. Marcin Bosacki, Poland's Deputy Foreign Minister, articulated the sentiment, stating, 'As the world becomes less and less predictable, war is at Poland's doorstep. There are shifts and threats in global trade, and Poland and Argentina stand as two pillars of the Western world. We should strengthen our cooperation and resilience. We are almost a perfect match.'

This declaration underscores a shared vision to leverage cooperation amidst evolving global dynamics. The forum served as a platform for representatives from government, institutions, business, academia, and media to explore new opportunities for collaboration.

Key Areas for Future Collaboration

The newly signed memorandum aims to strengthen economic, technological, and scientific ties, focusing on exploring new opportunities across key strategic sectors. Polish officials specifically highlighted Argentina's potential in:

  • Mining sector, including strategic resources like lithium and rare minerals
  • Agribusiness
  • Energy sectors

Argentina, in turn, showcased initiatives such as BA in Game, Artificial Intelligence development in Buenos Aires' Microcentro district, and Buenos Aires Crypto. Furthermore, a Polish energy group is reportedly considering investments in green hydrogen projects in Patagonia.

Current Trade Landscape and Growth Prospects

While bilateral trade flows between the two nations currently remain modest, totaling under US$1 billion annually, there is significant potential for growth. Argentine soy exports constitute approximately 70 percent of the current trade volume. In September 2025, Argentina's exports to Poland amounted to $71.3 million, while imports from Poland were $30 million.

Key Argentine exports to Poland in September 2025 included soybean meal, ground nuts, and motor vehicle parts and accessories. Conversely, Poland's main exports to Argentina during the same period were cars, motor vehicle parts and accessories, and centrifuges. Polish firms such as Look (LED lighting) and Inglot (pharmaceuticals) have already begun establishing a larger presence in Argentina, signaling a positive trend for diversifying trade.

Another agreement to extract Argentina's resources. Our lithium and minerals should benefit us first.

Strengthening ties with 'Western' partners is strategically sound in today's geopolitical climate. However, Argentina must ensure it secures favorable terms that genuinely benefit its domestic industries and avoid becoming solely a resource provider.

This is a great step for Argentina's economy. New markets and investment are always welcome!

High hopes, low delivery. These MoUs rarely translate into significant, sustained growth for developing nations.

While the intention to boost trade is positive, the current low volume means this agreement is aspirational rather than immediately impactful. Significant investment and sustained effort will be needed to see real growth.

Diversifying trade partners away from single dominant powers is smart. Good for both nations.
